The Experience

Make something, together,
to bring home

There's something special about a shared table. You settle into your own mosaic, hands busy and calm, and at the same time you're in good company, chatting and comparing as the hours slow down.

Come on your own and leave with new connections, or make a piece alongside the people you came with. Half the joy is picking up little tricks from the person beside you and cheering each other on.

And you learn something real along the way. A few pointers to start, and before you know it you're setting tiles like a true psephothétis, the old Greek word for one who sets the pebbles.

Linda, your host, working on a mosaic at the table
Your Host

Hi, I'm Linda

For years I was a private and executive chef, cooking in New York, Shanghai, and the south of France for some glamorous tables. I've lived in a lot of places, but of all of them, Kefalonia is the one I love most.

Its colours and calm are what drew me to mosaic. After a career of meals that vanish in an evening, there's something deeply satisfying about making a piece that lasts.

That's what I love sharing here: a little of the island's story, a piece you make with your own hands, and the easy company of a shared table. Some habits, it seems, you never lose.

psephothétis, the old Greek word for a mosaic-maker, the one who sets the tiles 😉

We booked it for our bridal party and it was such a game-changer. Everyone made something, everyone loved it, and we're still talking about it back home.

We've done plenty of tours, but this was the one where we truly felt we'd had a moment in Greece. It told us something about the island, and about Kefalonia especially.

I'm not crafty at all, so I came nervous. A couple of hours later I had a mosaic I was genuinely proud of. I didn't know I had it in me!

Questions, answered

Read our FAQ
Do I need any experience?

None at all. Most of our guests have never made a mosaic before. We guide you through every step, and beginners always leave with something they're proud of.

Can children join?

Yes, and it's a lovely family activity. It works best for ages 10 and up, as the pieces are small and a little fiddly. Younger ones are welcome too, with a grown-up lending a hand.

What language is the workshop in?

English. Linda also speaks Dutch, so feel free to ask.

How long does it take, and what will I make?

A relaxed two and a half to three hours, and you'll make your own mosaic of about 12 × 12 cm, from one of our templates or your own design.

Can I take my mosaic home the same day?

Yes. We wrap it up nicely so it travels home safely with you, whether that's in your suitcase or back to the ship.

Where exactly is it?

We're a travelling pop-up across Kefalonia and Ithaca, usually near Argostoli. You'll get the exact venue and directions when you book.

Can you host a private group or event?

Absolutely. Hen and bridal parties, family get-togethers, retreats and team days are some of our favourites. Regular sessions take 8 to 20, and private, exclusive bookings on location can go up to 40. Even a small group (from about 5) can have a private session, depending on the date and per-person price. Use the form to tell us what you have in mind.

Is it safe, and do I need to sign anything?

It's a relaxed afternoon, but we do use small hand tools (tile nippers), so we give a quick safety briefing and you'll sign a short liability waiver before we begin, standard for any hands-on workshop. Just let us know in advance about any allergies, as some adhesives and grout can irritate sensitive skin.

A little history

An island that has
always made mosaics

A short drive down the coast at Skala, a Roman villa from the 3rd century AD still keeps its mosaic floors, among them the famous "Envy" mosaic and an altar scene, laid stone by stone almost two thousand years ago. Every workshop opens with that story, so when you set your first tessera you're continuing a craft Kefalonia has practised since antiquity.
